Finishing
To finish a sales order is to confirm that the order has been packed and shipped.
A normal order must be finished before you can print invoices/credit notes, packing slips or consignment notes. You can finish on the basis of generated pick lists, or without first having printed pick lists. You can also perform manual reservations before finishing.
Finishing can be performed via the Finish processing on order level or on order line level as well as partial finishing of order lines using the Finish NOW field in the Order line table.
When you use the Finish processing on order level or on order line level, the Finished field is set equal to the invoiceable outstanding quantity, unless a special function has been set in the order lines. The value entered in the Finished field is deducted from the Quantity and Outstanding fields. The finishing is processed and reservations are made (if no pick lists have been printed and reservations thus made already).
The Finished field in the Reservation and Order line tables is updated. At the same time the order status is changed and shows that the order is finished and ready for printing of invoices/credit notes, packing slips and consignment notes (assuming the order has not been exempted from any of these printouts in the Exempt from processing/printing field).
Rows are created in the Product transaction table when you finish an order. This applies for all transaction types. Product transactions are not created for orders with order type 1 - Normal order where the product is set to Exempt from warehousing, because there is unique join between the Order line and Product transaction tables. This join is in the Reservation table, and that table is not used when a product is set to Exempt from warehousing.
Finished sales transactions are not updated with distributed discounts until the point of invoicing.
The last finish date is referred to in the Finish date field in the order. The date is set at the same time as Finished by. This is a field showing who last finished something in the order.
Tip: If you hold down the Shift key while selecting the processing, the Finish dialog will not open. You can also suppress the dialog by deselecting the Dialog at finishing option in the Order processing 2 field in the Company information table.
An error message will be displayed if the order or order lines are not ready for processing.
