Editing a contribution

You can edit a contribution for example by adding tables, columns, relations, and domains, as well as making settings for these.

From the contributions list, select the contribution you want to edit. The Contribution configuration page opens, divided into tabs with different settings.

Details

The Details tab presents basic information about the contribution. You can update Name and Description.

Tables

On the Tables tab, you can:

  • Select a core table and add custom columns to it
  • Create a new table with columns

You add columns the same way for both alternatives.

Extending a core table

  1. In the list of tables, search for, and select, the table you want to extend.
  2. Select Add column on the Columns tab at the right-hand side.

Adding a new table

  1. Click Add table.
  2. In the Add new table dialog, make the following settings:
    Parameter Description Comment
Identifier Table identifier, used inside DME
Text tag Create a new text tag with same name as the identifier, or select an existing text tag from the list. Only text tags created in the DME contribution are available, which means that this list can be empty.
    Primary key assignment

    Select one of these options:

    • Normal (Manual): The primary key must be entered manually, for example when the primary key is a string value
    • Incremental (System-managed): The primary key is assigned by the system, for example by pressing the + key
    • Identity (Database): The primary key value is automatically assigned by the database when a new row is added
Create as draft Draft tables can be freely modified until made available
  3. Click Save and close.

Now, when selecting the table in the table list, you find the following tabs on the right-hand side:

  • Properties: The main properties for the table
  • Columns: All columns in the table are displayed, and new columns can be added here. Control columns are automatically added when creating a new table, but by default not visible.
  • Relations: Definition of relations between tables/columns
  • Indexes: Custom indexes can be defined for the table, to improve performance

Adding columns

For columns, you configure basic information, access settings and display settings on the different tabs.
Basic information Description Comment
Identifier Column identifier, used inside DME
Text tag

This name will be displayed in the user interface, and translations can be added.

Create a new text tag with same name as the identifier, or select an existing text tag from the list.

Only text tags created in the DME contribution are available, which means that this list can be empty.
Domain

The data type of the column, select for example between:

  • Generic data types, like Int_32 or String_100
  • All data model domains, like ProductNo or OrderNo
  • Custom domains added in the contribution (flag/value/text domains)
Primary key Select if the column is primary key in the table (can be multiple segments)
Standard visible Select if the column will be visible by default when adding the table to a layout
Access settings Description
Read access Define permission to view the column: Everyone, Nobody or Supervisor
Write access Define permission to update the column: Everyone, Nobody or Supervisor
Availability Determine whether the column is in use: Available, Draft or Obsolete
Display settings Description
View zero

Determine display of zero value:

No: Show empty field when column value is zero

Zero/Empty: Show zero when column value is zero

Zero/NotSumLine: Show zero when column value is zero, but empty value on sum lines

Include value

Included value for text tags (replaces @ value)

Example: You want to add three columns - Info 1, Info 2 and Info 3. Instead of adding separate text tags for each column, you can add one text tag with the text Info @, and refer to this one from all the three columns. In the Include value field you enter the values 1, 2 and 3 respectively, and these values will then replace the @ value.

Org unit class This parameter is not yet implemented

Adding relations

For relations, you configure basic information and table settings on the different tabs.
Basic information Description
Name Name of the relation
Necessity

Select between:

  • Optional: A value can be filled out in the relation column
  • Required: A value must be filled out in the relation column
  • Pass: No validity check of entered value in the relation column
Delete rule

Select between:

  • Independent: Rows can be deleted in both the related tables regardless if columns are filled out
  • Cascade: Deleting a row in the main table will automatically delete rows with the same value in the related table (like deleting in Order table will also delete rows in the Order line table)
  • Restrict: Deleting isn't allowed if the relation is in use
First define the tables, and then click Add column mapping to define columns.
Tables Description
From table From which table the relation is used
To table To which table the relation is doing a lookup
From column From which column in the From table the relation is used
To column To which column in the To table the relation is connected

Adding indexes

For indexes, you configure basic information and index columns on the different tabs.
Basic information Description
Name Name of the index
Index columns Description
Column The column in the custom table for which the index is added.
Sort order The sort order of the index, ascending or descending

Domains

First you add a domain, and then you can configure domain properties and add members.

Adding a new domain

Parameter Description
Identifier When connecting the domain to a custom column, search for and select this value in the column’s Domain property
Domain type

The data type of the domain, select between:

  • Value (Enum): Will give a lookup dialog containing a list of different values, where one can be selected
  • Flags: Will give a lookup dialog containing flags with different bit values, multiple values can be selected
  • Text Type: A new Text type is made available in the Text table. Behaves more or less like Value (Enum), but custom values can be added in the user interface.
Data type

Use default values:

  • Int64 for Flags
  • Int32 for Value (Enum) and Text Type

Domain properties

Parameter Description
Identifier Entered when creating the domain
Text tag Name and translations for the selected text tag can be added by clicking the pen icon.
Include value
Text type number Used for Text Type domains, the value that is created in the Text type column in the Text table (automatically assigned)
Field justification Justification of the column content: Left, Center or Right
Domain type Entered when creating the domain
Data type Entered when creating the domain
Column width Default column width for the domain column, when the table is added to a layout

Domain members

Note:
Adding domain members is only relevant for Value (Enum) and Flags domain types, not for Text Type domains.
Parameter Description
Value

The next available value is automatically suggested, and should not be changed:

For Value (Enum) domains, the value is consecutive (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, …)

For Flags domains, the value is a power of two (bit value) (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, …)

Identifier Name of the domain member

A list of all domain members is shown at the bottom of the screen. To add texts or translations for the domain member, click the pen icon next to the text tag.

Text tags

Text tags are automatically created when adding tables, columns, domains, domain members and relations. On the Text tags tab you can add and update translations for the different entities. The text tags are grouped after entity type (table, column, domain etc.).

You can search and filter for text tags using the Search field, to, for example, only see columns with the same table prefix.

You can import text files for translations by clicking Import, the relevant language is selected in the dialog.

Add tag can be used when you want to create the text tag before adding the entity (like a new column). The correct text tag can then be selected in the Add new column dialog.

Versions

You see the list with all published versions.

When you click Publish version, you will create an immutable snapshot of the current model. The version label for the snapshot is auto-generated. For each version, you can add a description about what has changed.

Under Customer management, you will be informed when a new version is available.

To install a new version, click Manage versions, select a version, and then run Apply changes.
