Importing demo data in Visma Business

Om denne oppgaven

If you are only intending to import data and not any of the common parameters such as users and layouts, you should only import the company file which is called, for instance, F0001.txt. This file will contain company information, i.e. information from a company database. National folders such as Eng.Int and Nor.Int contain the files engdemo.txt and nordemo.txt respectively, which contain demo data for a company.

Prosedyre

  1. Create a new company in Visma Business if you have not already done this.
    1. Click on the System administration folder and then on the Company window and enter the new company.
    2. Remember to define the company in the Bedriftsgruppe-medlem table.
  2. On the Company menu, click Import.

A dialog box with a number of parameters that you must define before the import procedure can start opens.

  3. Select the new company as To database.
  4. Select Import method to determine how new rows will be processed in relation to existing rows.
    Alternativ Beskrivelse
Overwrite stated fields If a row with the same primary key exists this row is updated. Only the columns in the import file are updated. Other columns are unchanged. If the row does not exist a new row is created. This import method is ideal when you want to update certain columns and retain the value in the others.
Merk: We recommend this method rather than Add only new rows when importing batches from other systems because the same job will be executed, as there will not be any batch numbers in such a file.
Replace whole rows If a row with the same primary key exists this row is updated. All columns are updated. Other rows are unchanged. If the row does not exist a new row is created.
Add only new rows If a row with the same primary key exists this row is ignored. If the row does not exist a new row is created. This is the safest of all the import methods as no data is overwritten.
Replace entire contents of tables The old content in the tables is deleted before the rows are imported. You can use this import method when you do not want to keep any of the old content in the tables. The import file must contain a complete list of all the rows which you want to feature in the tables after import. If you have not specified any rows for a table this table remains blank after import. This only applies to the table, and there is no subsequent data. If the table is not defined the content will not be deleted.
Merk: Only users who are marked as Systemansv. in the Bruker table are allowed to import data using the "Replace entire contents of tables" method.

The @IMPORT_METHOD commands in the import file override the selection you made in the dialog box. If you use different commands in the same import file, you change the import method.

  5. Select Syntax check.
  6. Click Import.
  7. Select the demo data file, e.g. engdemo.txt.
  8. Click Open.

If you are also going to import users and layouts you need to import the system data file.

  1. On the Company menu, click Import.

A dialog box with a number of parameters that you must define before the import procedure can start opens.

  2. Select a vbsys database and look for the file engstd.txt in the Eng.Int folder under the Visma Business folder. ALWAYS choose Replace entire contents of tables when this file is imported. Users are in engsys.txt, but should not be imported again, as this can cause you to lose access to company databases which are created.
Merk: When exporting and importing data it is important that both machines are running the same version of Visma Business. engstd.txt will NEVER be imported from another version. This means that when importing demo data you need to always know which version of Visma Business the demo data is being exported from.

You can see at the bottom of the screen how long the import process has been going on.
